Statement and Biography: Stephen is a self-taught landscape photographer who has worked in the Eastern Massachusetts area for eleven years. Many of his photos are from these surrounding areas because of the scenic opportunities presented by the many orchards, rivers, woods and ponds. Stephen also graduated from Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts with a major in Film Composition and Piano. In his photography as well as his music, he strives for a sense of space that emphasizes openness and avoids clutter. He explains, "Just as the musical score sets the mood for a movie, color composition can set the mood in landscape photography. Some of the most interesting scores are made by the intertwining of the simplest of melodies. Some of the most interesting photographs are made by intertwining of the simplest elements in nature." His work is very simple and peaceful. "I like scenes that have an abundance
of color. Going back to the same places at different times of the day and
seasons is quite important in getting the photo I want. There is always
something new to photograph each time. Timing and patience are the most critical parts of landscape photography.
Nature is always changing, minute to minute."
THE MUSIC: Stephen's interest in Film music started when he was about twelve years old when he purchased the soundtrack to the television series
SPACE: 1999. A year later he bought STAR WARS. Some of his other favorite soundtracks are THE DARK CRYSTAL by Trevor Jones,
RETURN TO OZ by David Shire, STAR TREK: THE MOTION PICTURE and LIONHEART by Jerry Goldsmith.
He currently owns about 300 LP's and about 835 CD film soundtracks.
THE PHOTOGRAPHY: In March of 1997, Stephen started landscape photography. This was due in part he had a great interest in Comet Hale-Bopp. Hale-Bopp was his inspiratation. With it's bright head and tail juxtapose over landscapes it made for some great photography. Photography has been his passion for about twelve years. He is knowledgeable with both film and digital photography. His exhibitions include three solo shows, one at The John B. Hynes Convention Center in Boston,
The Newton Public Library in Newton, MA, Minuteman Airport Cafe in Stow, MA. His group shows include two at the All About Arts Center in Roslindale, MA,
and one with the Boston Camera Club at the Hynes Convention Center. He has won contests on the internet and at the Boston Camera Club where he use to be public relations
